- Another software that is comparable to the Java SE package is the OpenJDK. Released in 2007 by Sun Microsystems, OpenJDK is an open-source freeware that implements the Java SE software. To use Java SE for business, commercial, and production use, users will need to buy Oracle’s commercial license whereas people can use OpenJDK completely for.

System Requirements
Java 6 Se Download Mac
- Any Intel-based Mac running Mac OS X 10.7.3 (Lion) or later.
- Administrator privileges.
Note that installing the JRE on a Mac is performed on a system wide basis, for all users, and administrator privileges are required. You cannot install Java for a single user.
Only one JRE can be installed at a time. The system will not install a JRE that has a lower version than the current version. If you wish to install a lower version of the JRE, first uninstall the current version. Installing a JRE from Oracle will not update java -version symlinks or add java to your path. To be able to do this, you need to install the JDK.JRE 7 Installation Instructions
The JRE installation includes the JavaFX Runtime which is incorporated into the same directory structure.
Installation of the 64-bit JRE on Mac Platforms
Depending on your processor, the downloaded file has one of the following names:
- jre-7u<version>-macosx-amd64.dmg
- jre-7u<version>-macosx-x64.dmg
Where <version> is 6 or later.
1. Download the file. Before the file can be downloaded, you must accept the license agreement.
2. From either the Downloads window of the browser, or from the file browser, double click the .dmg file to launch it.

5. The Installation Type window appears. Click Install.
6. A window appears which says 'Installer is trying to install new software. Type your password to allow this.' Enter the Administrator login and password and click Install Software.
7. The software is installed and a confirmation window appears.
After the software is installed, delete the dmg file if you want to save disk space.
Determining the Installed Version of the JRE
If you have not yet installed Apple's Java Mac OS X 2012-006 update, then you are still using a version of Apple Java 6 that includes the plug-in and the Java Preferences app. See Note for Users of Macs that Include Apple Java 6 Plug-in.Only one JRE can be installed. Installing a JRE removes the previously installed JRE. The JRE version used by the system can be determined in one of two ways:
- From System Preferences click the Java icon from the Other category. This launches the Java Control Panel. Click About....
- Type the following in a Terminal window:
The system will not install a JRE that has a lower version than the current version. If you want to install a lower version, first uninstall the existing version.
Uninstalling the JRE
To uninstall the JRE, you must have Administrator privileges and execute the remove commands either as root or by using the sudo(8) tool.
Remove one directory and one file (a symlink), as follows:
- Navigate to /Library/Internet Plug-Ins and remove the JavaAppletPlugin.plugin directory.
- Navigate to /Library/PreferencePanes and remove JavaControlPanel.prefpane.
Do not attempt to uninstall Java by removing the Java tools from /usr/bin. This directory is part of the system software and any changes will be reset by Apple the next time you perform an update of the OS.

Details
Oracle Java SE 6 (Oracle JDK 6 and Oracle JRE 6) and Oracle JRockit (all versions) Extended Support period ended as described below:
- Java SE 6 Deployment Technology (i.e. web technology; primarily, Java Plugin and Java WebStart): Extended Support ended June, 2017.1
- Java SE 6 product: Extended Support ended December, 2018.2
- Oracle JRockit product (all versions): Extended Support ended December, 2018.2
End of Extended Support means that the products go into sustaining support mode, as defined by the Oracle Lifetime Support Policy, i.e. no further patch updates (no bug fixes, security fixes or feature implementations) will be provided, and only very limited support will be available after the above respective dates. Also see Oracle Java SE Support Roadmap.
2WebLogic Server (WLS) 10.3.6 certifies JRockit, Oracle JDK 6 and Oracle JDK 7. However, when an Oracle product certifies more than one version of a JDK, upgrading to the higher version JDK is required when the lower version support ends, in order to receive support for both products. This is documented in the <Document 952075.1> Java SE End of Life and Oracle Fusion Middleware Policy:
If a FMW product is certified on multiple Java SE versions, the newer Java SE version will be supported for use of the FMW product for the full remaining life cycle of the FMW product. When Extended Support ends for the older Java SE version, customers must upgrade to the newer Java SE version in order to continue to receive Support, for Java SE and for the FMW product that uses Java SE. We will no longer issue new bug fixes, including fixes for security vulnerabilities, for the older Java SE version, or the FMW product running on the older Java SE version.
Note also that Java SE 6 Extended Support end date now coincides with the WLS/FMW 11g Premier Support end date. (See LSP and Note 1585582.1, 'Extended Fusion Middleware 11g Lifetime Support Policy Dates' ).
WLS/FMW 11g Extended Support continues for a longer period than Java SE. The implication is that a FMW 11g customer running on a JDK from Oracle (JRockit or Hotspot), who wants to run on a supported JDK from Oracle after the Premier Support date, will need to be running on Oracle JDK 7 (Hotspot). This means an upgrade from 11g on JDK 6 to 11g on JDK 7 should be performed if planning to use Extended Support.
This means that WLS 10.3.6, is no longer fully supported with Java SE 6 and JRockit (which is based on Java SE 6) effective December, 2018. WLS 10.3.6 users must upgrade to JDK 7 in order to receive support. This is further stated in the <Document 950131.1> Error Correction Support Dates for Oracle WebLogic Server. See the note (b) under Question 2:
2. How does this policy affect WebLogic Server 11g versions (10.3.1+)?
[snip]
(b) WLS 10.3.6 has been certified on both JDK 6 and JDK 7. Oracle JDK 6 support will end December 2018. After December 2018, WLS 10.3.6 error correction will only be provided on JDK 7. WLS 10.3.6/Oracle JDK customers wishing to receive WLS (and Oracle JDK) error correction beyond December 2018 must be on JDK 7. Refer to the following for details: <Note 952075.1> -Java SE End of Life and Oracle Fusion Middleware Policy
